For years, Joey Gonnello’s life was defined by the high-octane glamour of Las Vegas. As a master hairstylist, he commanded the fast-paced energy as a contributor at FOX 5 Las Vegas  and traveled as the personal stylist for icons like Olivia Newton-John. He was at the top of his game in the entertainment industry—but life was about to demand a complete rewrite of his script.

A devastating health crisis struck without warning, forcing Joey to face a stark medical reality and instructions to get his affairs in order. What followed was a brutal, grueling seven-year war for survival: an agonizing gauntlet of  medical procedures and three major surgeries including a transplant.

The health battle took nearly everything, forcing Joey to leave Vegas behind to seek the comfort of family. But rather than letting the diagnosis defeat him, Joey grabbed life by the balls and pivoted. He accepted a life-altering new career path, stepping out of the salon and into the high-stakes, demanding world of corporate logistics and inventory management. It was the ultimate masterclass in humility and grit; he went from commanding elite styling fees to starting completely over from the ground up, earning in two weeks what he used to make in a single hour.

Yet, even as he adapted to the warehouse floor, tragedy kept testing him. Joey suffered the heartbreaking loss of his close friend and business partner. Later, an old friend reconnected with him, becoming a vital anchor who brought sunlight back into his world during his darkest moments—only for fate to cruelly intervene when that very friend suffered a sudden, massive heart attack.

Through the shattering grief and physical toll, Joey didn’t break. Guided by faith and a deep belief that every trial was part of a divine blueprint, he channeled his survival into storytelling. Through the healing outlet of therapy, he turned his thoughts into scenes, and those scenes into a powerful, cinematic book trilogy:

Though his career path took him from the red carpets to the red counter, the journey has ultimately brought Joey full circle back to what he loves most: entertainment. He remains adamant that he wouldn't change a single scar or heartbreak along the way. Every setback was just setting the stage for his debut book release, proving that the most captivating stories aren't just written—they are survived.
